The Holy Ghost

Today has been so touching. Our lesson in my primary class was about receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost after being baptized. We started out with a treasure hunt to help us find clues about this gift that is most precious above all others. We talked of the Holy Ghost and how the apostles received the Holy Ghost to be a comforter for them after Jesus Christ was resurrected. We practiced memorizing the 4th Article of Faith (which the kids loved...they could have spent the whole class doing this, but we had to move on), and talked about the feeling we have when we are prompted by the Holy Ghost.

Tonight, during scripture study, we read about Helaman's sons Lehi and Nephi. Nephi gave up the judgment seat because he could see how much iniquity was in the land and he thought he could do more good crying repentance to the people, so he and his brother Lehi served a mission. They were able to bring back many dissenters who no longer wanted to be part of the Nephites, then they began to preach to the Lamanites. What a blessing for two people to be able to aid in the conversion of 8,000 Lamanites! Next, they were put into prison. We read the story of how they were about to be slain by the Lamanites when they were encircled about by a pillar of fire and were conversing with angels. The Lamanites were afraid. Then a still, small voice came into their hearts and taught peace and forgiveness. Soon, ALL the people in the prison: prisoners, soldiers, and all, were also encircled about by this same pillar of fire and administered to by angels.

What a powerful experience! I am so blessed to be able to have the gospel in my life. The Holy Ghost HAS been a source of comfort for me, has given me the necessary promptings that I have needed in preparing for lessons and talks, has been a voice of warning. I am so grateful that I have the scriptures; that they have been preserved and translated for us in our day so that we can read of these marvelous things. My heart was so full as I read this story to my boys. I'm looking forward to the day when they will be baptized and receive this most precious gift above all others, and they can share their experiences with me.

1. Having a companion teacher (finally) for my CTR 7 class
2. Opportunity to spend time with family
3. Working with Alex this weekend to ride his bike without training wheels (we are so close!)
4. Reading President Hinckley's Standing for Something
5. The beautiful day on Saturday, and all the outdoor activities that went along with it

Alex must be SO excited to learn how to ride his bike! I can't wait to have Tyler teach our kids to ride. We won't be able to get Aubrey a decent bike until we move, but it will be so much fun, both for her and for Tyler & I! :)
