Last night, I watched the movie Julie and Julia. What a delightful movie! One of my favorite lines went something like this: "No matter what kind of day you have, even if it's crazy, when you come home and add a couple of egg yolks and a little heat to chocolate, it will set up. And you can count on that."
I wish I knew the exact quote. That's the way that I feel about cooking. I love being able to whip ingredients together and make a beautiful masterpiece. It's therapeutic for me to spend time in the kitchen and go through the process. Whenever we have a party to attend, I like to take the time to make something from scratch. Brian always says, "You know, you'll save so much time and energy if you just go buy this at the store." It's not the same to me at all.
"Never apologize. No excuses. No explanations", is another tip Julia gave when she was making a dish. Even if what you're creating doesn't turn out perfectly, the fact that you spent the time CREATING is worth it. It doesn't always have to look pretty for the flavor to be wonderful.
Meryl Streep did a wonderful job portraying Julia Child. She was so funny to watch with her mannerisms, way of talking, and the passion for eating food. I loved the relationship between Julia and Paul, too. They were so in love! I love that they celebrated Valentine's Day (my favorite holiday) each year by sending out a picture of the two of them to their friends and family, and wore giant red hearts at their Valentine's dinner party. They were so devoted to each other! There's also a hilarious scene where Julia is learning how to chop onions.
Amy Adams was adorable, too, with her determination and adoration for her mentor. One of my favorite scenes was when Julie was learning how to prepare lobster...oh, and when she was learning how to poach an egg.
This was such a fun movie. I loved the fun tips like the fact that meat doesn't brown as well in the pan if you don't take the time to pat it dry. Mushrooms won't brown well if you crowd them...they need room to brown. And if you cook everything with butter (ah, butter), you'll get fat. :)
Go check the movie out if you haven't seen it yet. I loved it!

I really enjoyed that movie as well. I didn't know much about Julia Child before--just that she was on TV cooking.
I'm really anxious to see it (and not because my name also happens to be Julia; lol). I've heard it's really cute & if it has both love stories and cooking involved, I am sold on the idea of watching it! ;)
