For Alex's final requirement to earn his Wolf badge in Cub Scouts, we visited the fire station!
Jacob happened to be in the first shot of the day:
Station #9 is closest to our home. This station is the one that frequently responds when we have emergencies at work.
Check out all the different ports for hoses on the engine! We learned that one of the requirements is to attend hydraulics school, and that you have to be really great at math to be a fireman.
Jared was our tour guide. He showed us around the fire home, and explained that the firemen live there two days a week. They have chores to complete just like they do at home: dishes, vacuuming, keeping their rooms tidy, and yardwork are some of the things they have to complete each day.
Alex was first to sit in the seat. We learned that each seat has different priorities. The Engineer drives, the Jump Man is the first to jump out and get the hoses, and the third seat (above) is the one that communicates on the radio.
All of their clothing items are ready to pull on. They are completely suited up in about 90 seconds!
The boys took turns trying on Jared's coat and hat. By the time they are dressed, each fireman has an extra 60 pounds of equipment!

As we were finishing our tour, our station got an emergency call to which they had to respond. We watched them turn on the lights and sirens and head out the door.We loved our visit to the station. I was very impressed at how well the boys answered each question Jared posed. They are now officially prepared for an emergency, and came home and started playing "fireman" right away. I love that the boys have such enthusiasm for these incredible heroes that respond to the toughest situations day after day.
